My first assignment for Lonely Planet was in 1999 travelling throughout Kazakhstan to update that chapter of their Central Asia guide. I’ve since worked on scores of other projects for the company including guidebooks to India, South Africa, Russia, Malaysia, Singapore, Korea and Myanmar (Burma).
Among my favourite projects for the company have been working on the first (and only) edition of Istanbul to Khatmandu, during which time I spent three months travelling overland across Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, India and Nepal; and hopping on and off trains through Russia, Mongolia and China for the first to third editions of the Trans-Siberian Railway guide.
Other Lonely Planet books I’ve worked on include the Out to Eat restaurant series for Sydney and London; walking guides to Britain and Australia; and a variety of other titles including The Travel Book, The Asia Book, Code Green, Experimental Travel, the Blue List 2008 and Cooks, Clowns & Cowboys.
Due out in May 2013 is the 12th edition of Malaysia, Singapore & Brunei. I worked as co-ordinating author on this guide, updating all the general chapters and the destination chapters for Kuala Lumpur and Selangor and Negeri Sembilan. I also co-ordinated Africa 13 which will be published in the latter part of 2013.
During 2013 I’ve been commissioned to work on the third edition of the Kuala Lumpur, Melaka & Penang guide as well as to coordinate the 12th edition of Myanmar (Burma).
